15 Huge Controversies That Rocked Star Wars
6. The Death Of The EU
When Disney spent an inordinate amount of money getting their hands on the Star Wars rights in 2012, it caused something of a split among fans. Some were delighted that it meant we would definitely see more Star Wars films, while others reacted the way lots of people naturally do when a giant corporation takes over something they love to make money: with fear.
Though the move to establish a story group to "oversee" the canon in 2012 looked like a positive one, the subsequent decision to cast off almost the entire Expanded Universe in 2014 as non-canonical was devastating for fans who got their kicks out there. Sure, Disney would replace it with their own canon, but that didn't make up for the fact that lots of fan favourites were being blasted to oblivion for little reason.
And not only that, it looked rather like Disney were cynically looking to sell the EU to fans once more to make the money a second time.
