15 Most Obscure Comic Books That Were Turned Into Movies
3. Ghost World
Ghost World was released by Fantagraphics Books, a controversial company based out of Seattle, Washington, from 1993 to 1997. The 'coming of age' series is arguably the most famous storyline to come from the anthology series Eightball created by Daniel Clowes. It primarily follows a pair of adolescent girls as they prepare for the daunting prospect that is adulthood.
A 2001 film version featured Scarlett Johansson long before she took the world by storm as Black Widow as well as others including Thora Birch and Steve Buscemi. Much like American Splendor two years later, Ghost World was not a blockbuster by much of any stretch of the imagination, but it seemed to delight most critics. And likewise it received an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
This was not the only time an Eightball story would make it to the big screen...
