15 PERFECT Scenes In Otherwise Disappointing Movies

3. Ready Player One: The Shining

The Lost World Sarah
Paramount

Ready Player One is the best movie on this list and was popular when it came out, but if you've watched it again since, you probably liked it a lot less. Overlong, soulless and filled with awful characterisation, this is doomed to hold up poorly.

Still, there is one scene that will absolutely hold up for years to come and that is the film's brilliant homage to Stanley Kubrick's tremendous horror classic The Shining. The sequence sees the film's protagonists going through a level resembling the Overlook Hotel encountering many obstacles based on the film in order to find an in-game key (a part of the wider game the characters are playing).

This sequence is probably the best film reference in cinematic history (Quentin Tarantino eat your heart out) and not only is it a wonderful tribute to a great film, but it's also a hilarious, inventive, visually dynamic and uproariously entertaining set-piece. The film itself is merely OK, but it's worth watching for this scene alone.
