With a $209 million budget, Luc Besson's recent action blockbuster is the most expensive non-American film ever made, and that's little surprising when you know that the final film features a jaw-dropping 2734 visual effects shots.

Considering that even a Transformers movie only has a total of around 2500 shots in its entirety, it's pretty incredible that Besson could reach this number.

According to the director, only around 100 shots in the film have no visual effects whatsoever, which likely explains the need for such an insane price tag. Compare it to Besson's sci-fi cult classic The Fifth Element from 20 years ago, which had only 188 effects shots, with an evidently far greater emphasis on practical visuals.

The final film is unquestionably visually stunning, but from a business perspective, it probably would've been sensible to try and cut down the number of VFX shots a tad.
