15 Things Horror Remakes Did Better Than The Original

9. Quarantine - Prelude

Nightmare On Elm Street Remake

The 2007 Spanish horror film Rec is definitely one of the best found-footage horror films out there (although there's not much competition since most such films are dreadful) and the American remake is actually pretty good too. It's very faithful to Rec in a somewhat lazy manner, but in doing that it remained just as disturbing and scary as the first film.

As a result, the two films are more or less on a even keel, although Quarantine's backstory for the zombie outbreak is less compelling than the backstory in Rec.

That being said, there is another big change Quarantine made for the better and that's that it waits a bit longer before diving straight into the quarantined apartment building and viewers are allowed to get to know the characters more.

The original film is only 78 minutes and that does hurt it a bit since the characters aren't given much in the way of development. With Quarantine, the extended opening does work very well and the characters, although still not especially developed, at least feel more relatable.
