13. Alice Through The Looking Glass
Release Date: May 26, 2016 (UK), May 27, 2016 (US) Why It Could Suck: The first one wasn't especially good or memorable for starters, and the fact that Tim Burton could only be coaxed back to produce this follow-up despite a surely huge pay-day awaiting him if he directed it isn't a very encouraging sign. Also, six years later, has too much time passed for people to care about this movie? Why It Might Be Surprisingly Awesome: The change of director might actually work wonders for this sequel: James Bobin has enjoyed success working on Da Ali G Show, Flight of the Conchords and both recent Muppets movies. Perhaps Bobin's presence might help the movie's comic and generally lighter elements land more comfortably, as this seemed to be the area where Burton struggled. Plus, with almost the entire cast returning, it's going to have quite the roster of talent behind it. Though it's easy to dismiss the film given its super-lengthy post-production schedule (the film isn't released until 19 months after shooting wrapped), remember that Mad Max: Fury Road stewed for a similar amount of time and turned out magnificent.
