15 Worst Performances In 2016 Films (So Far)
3. Natalie Dormer - The Forest
The Forest took a promising premise about a real forest in Japan where people go to commit suicide and shamefully wastes it with substandard scares and a lead performance to match. On the back of her Game of Thrones fame, Natalie Dormer was chosen as the face of this supposedly psychological horror, and that is all her presence amounts to - a face.
All the former Princess Margaery actress brings to this J-horror rip-off is an attractive western face that she can't even manage work into a convincing portrait of fear. Things start off well enough and Dormer manages to pull you in when she learns that her twin sister has entered the so-called suicide forest, though when she arrives there herself she just doesn't convince as a potential scream queen.
The Forest offered Dormer an opportunity to showcase her range as she took on the roles of both Sara Price and her twin sister Jess, though unfortunately her portrayal of the worrisome Sara (who she played for the majority of the film) was far less interesting than her take on runaway Jess. Going forward, the actress might be best served sticking to the wry smiles and subtle seductiveness that made her so good to watch in Game of Thrones.
