16 Intriguing Indie Films To Watch Out For In Spring 2014
6. Under The Skin
Plot: An alien seductress is sent to Earth by a rich corporation to prey on unsuspecting hitchhikers in Scotland. Scarlett Johansson leads the way here. She could not stop talking in her voice-only performance in Her, but this time around, the focus will be almost entirely visual. The movie is based on the 2000 novel by Michael Faber. While it's tough to infer what's really going on in the movie trailer, according to the novel, the alien drugs these hitchhikers and delivers them to this corporation where they subsequently fatten the humans and turn them into meat. Human meat is considered a delicacy in the alien's homeland. Yeah... pretty strange stuff. It'll definitely be interesting to see Jonathan Glazer's take on it. Under The Skin premiered at last fall's Telluride Film Festival to rave reviews with many touting the film as being the best movie at the festival. It's gonna be a weird movie, that's for sure. But now that David Lynch appears to be retired, we need someone to fill in the weirdness void.
