9. Miles Ahead - Don Cheadle
Rotten Tomatoes score: 73% Don Cheadle doesn't appear long for the MCU. As the hetero life pal to Tony Stark and the second guy to don an iron suit that has more guns in it than a picture of me flexing in a singlet at an NRA rally, War Machine is the most expendable of all the heroes to fight in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War. He's not struggling for work outside of Marvel, however, as seen with Miles Ahead, which he also directed. The film chronicles the life of extremely talented jazz singer Miles Davis, whose swagger Cheadle effortlessly embodies in the lead role. However, Cheadle decided to add a dash of gun fights and car chases, as the majority of this unconventional biopic is a lucid action adventure in which Miles Davis hallucinates crazy, symbolic scenarios while hepped up on goofballs in his hotel room. I cant help but wonder if there was a better way to honour a man who was inspired to quit heroin by the tenacity of boxer Sugar Ray Robinson, than to create a thrill ride out of his drug stupors, although Miles Ahead seems like an interesting biopic unlike any other. Considering that there is a lot of Davis life that isnt shown in the film, there is more than enough room for another, less ambitious filmmaker to create a more straightforward biopic. You should see this if: you want to see a biopic that does away with the stereotypical formula to portray an interesting man in an interesting manner.
