20 Action Movie Sequels Since 2000 That Don't Suck

2. Mad Max Fury Road

Take 30 years to follow up a movie often regarded as a franchise-killer, replace the lead actor with a Brit who usually plays villains and you too can create the best action movie of 2015.

George Miller’s Max is no longer Mad – he is grandiosely, entertainingly, over-the-top-and-through-the-woods full on berserk. Flamboyant in the style of James Cameron, yet as unhinged as any Italian imitation, Fury Road proves you can keep a franchise going by adding new elements here and there.

Unlike most franchises, it’s the product of one director’s fevered imagination – a director who also makes movies about pigs and tap dancing penguins. While it's not unheard of for filmmakers to flip between action and kiddie films (Robert Rodriguez does it all the time), few have done so as audaciously or as successfully as Miller.
