20 Best Movies Of 2020
5. Mank
David Fincher's first film in five years is by far his least-accessible project to date, but one sure to enrapture film lovers and especially fans of Orson Welles' Citizen Kane.
Less an all-encompassing document of Kane's production and more a surreal, booze-soaked drama following the life and times of the film's screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz (Gary Oldman), Mank is a detail-dense, typically wordy effort which demands absolute attention from audiences.
It's tough to blame anyone who doesn't vibe with Mank given that it's just so different from Fincher's prior works, but between the astonishing technical detail and the bevy of marvelous performances - especially a never-better Oldman and Amanda Seyfried - this is the most playfully creative biographical movie of the year.
