Batman Alum: Michael Keaton This spinoff to Despicable Me didn't seem like it would (or even could) work. They're little banana-looking things in overalls that wear goggles and don't speak in any decipherable real-world language. Making an entire movie with the Minions as the primary protagonists would involve some Charlie Chaplin-esque creativity, using body language and facial expressions to convey the finer aspects of the film. And this is supposed to be a movie for kids. But they found a way to make it work, thanks to a stellar supporting cast that includes Sandra Bullock and Jon Hamm. Playing one of the many villains that the film employs to carry the heavy workload of actual speaking roles, Michael Keaton shows up as a bank robber alongside his wife (Allison Janney) and, although their voices don't occupy most screen time, Keaton's voice is unmistakable and has the perfect cadence for this kind of work. It's funny, it's harmless, and it's still an ideal treat for the little ones. But adults can have fun picking out the famous voices, if nothing else. (And imagining the aforementioned bank robber is actually Batman during the evening hours.)
