Batman Alum: Anne Hathaway Robert De Niro is an old guy who doesn't like being retired. So he throws himself back into the game as a "senior" intern at a fashion website. Cue the hilarious miscommunication and jokes about how old people don't understand the internet! It appears Catwoman was just one of very few temporary stopgaps in the unstoppable Anne Hathaway rom-com machine. Oh, and look who realized it's been more than two months since he last ruined an adequate movie with his dangerously irrelevant face? Hi, Robert! No, it's not really as bad as that sounded. Honestly, it's a little surprising how this earnest little melodrama is able to crank up the schmaltz and still make the audience feel invested in the characters. Also, the fantastical elements of De Niro's existence allows the filmmakers to get away with stuff that would look utterly ridiculous in a contemporary rom-com. There are some very gentle lessons to be gleaned from the film, but it's not pretending that the idea of a beautiful, young woman like Anne Hathaway struggling to find love in the 21st century isn't just a wee bit silly at the same time.
