Potter Actors Featured: Daniel Radcliffe, Maggie Smith, Imelda Staunton, Zoe Wanamaker, Dawn French, Paul Whitehouse

While the BBC's 1999 adaptation of Charles Dickens novel David Copperfield was not technically a film (it was in fact a two-part drama adapted for the network by Adrian Hodges) it deserves a mention here as it marks the debut of Harry himself Daniel Radcliffe and his first collaboration with a number of future Potter actors.

The future Boy Who Lived had no idea at the time, but some of his Copperfield co-stars would become his colleagues for the next decade. Professor McGonagall actress Maggie Smith takes a young Daniel Radcliffe (David Copperfield) under her wing as Betsey Trotwood, his man-hating great-aunt.

Zoe Wanamaker (Madam Hooch) appeared as Jane Murdstone, Imelda Staunton (Umbridge) played Mrs Micawer, while Paul Whitehouse and Dawn French (who played the portraits of Sir Cadogan and The Fat Lady respectively) played the Pawnbroker and Mrs Crupp.

The project was developed with BBC America and first aired on US television in April 2000 as a feature on PBS, going on to win the Peabody Award as well as critical acclaim at home in Britain.
