20 Great Films You Won't Believe Aren't On IMDb's Top 250
15. Kick-Ass
Rating: 7.6
Kick-Ass fell off the Top 250 years ago. It is an acquired taste in fairness but still deserves a spot.
The 2010s have been the decade the superhero film took over cinema, with the MCU, DCEU and X-Men franchise dominating release schedules. Who would've thought the film which is arguably the best superhero film of the 2010s would be some strange, ultra-violent independent satire?
That's right folks. Kick-Ass is the best superhero film of the decade. It's got all the heart-pumping thrills you'd expect from this genre, but surprisingly it's also highly effective as a tragicomic drama. It's another astonishing mixture of light and dark that plays with the viewer's emotions in unique ways. Kick-Ass is dark, nasty, tasteless and brutal, but it's also hilarious and at times it's startlingly beautiful. For all the different feelings invoked by Kick-Ass, the main one will be a true sense of euphoria.
Backed up by Matthew Vaughn's fantastic direction and five phenomenal performances from Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Nicolas Cage, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Mark Strong and Chloe Grace Moretz, Kick-Ass is a truly wild ride and one you won't want to end.
