20 Great Films You Won't Believe Aren't On IMDb's Top 250

14. Talk To Her

Toy Story 2
Sony Pictures Classic

Rating: 8.0

Talk to Her is one of the best films of the 2000s and that's something many critics agree on. At first glance, this doesn't look like much, so the number of twists, taboos and thought-provoking metaphors unleashed lurking within will shock everyone.

With colorful cinematography, expressive mise-en-scene, devastating shocks and thought-provoking themes of identity, this is typical Pedro Almodovar through and through. Talk to Her is his masterpiece and, considering his incredible filmography, that's really saying something.

Detailed, rich and filled with layers, this is a film that plays like a complex novel. The number of allusions, homages, hidden meanings and nuances in this film are astonishing and it's no exaggeration to say there is a Kubrick-like level of detail here. As well as being stunningly intelligent, it's a beautifully acted piece and an emotional roller-coaster that'll tear you apart.

Full of transgressions, moral ambiguity and hauntingly powerful drama, this is a film that's both ridiculously messed-up but also startlingly beautiful, making this a modern classic without question and a film which not only lives up to the hype, but exceeds it.
