20 Greatest Movie Moments Of The 2010s

10. Drive: The Elevator

Inception Corridor
FilmDistrict

This scene from Nicolas Winding Refn's brutal yet beautiful and mesmerizing art-house thriller is one of those movie moments where you watch it and know, then and there, that you'll never, ever be able to forget it.

At first, it's a tender and moving sequence as the Driver (Ryan Gosling) and Irene (Carrey Mulligan) share a kiss, but it just so happens that there is a hitman in the lift too. As soon as the kiss ends, the Driver fights the hitman viciously and stomps him to death in a very brutal manner. The sound effects as the man's head crunches open will leave even the hardest viewers squirming.

A scene that goes from being touching to scaring the living daylights out of viewers in seconds, the directing, cinematography, editing, sound design and music are all completely flawless here and make this a movie moment that really does hit like a brick to the face. Mind blowing stuff.
