20 Greatest Performances In Superhero Movies

4. Christopher Reeve - Superman (Superman I & II)

Christopher Reeve In Superman
Warner Bros.

As the saying goes, Christopher Reeve made us all believe a man could fly with his note-perfect performance as the Man of Steel.

Long before he became a deadbeat dad or mopey sad sack in more recent cinematic iterations, Superman was an affable beacon of hope and optimism, cemented superbly by Reeve's chiseled jaw and irresitible charm.

The double-act of Superman and Clark Kent is a tough two-hander to properly pull off, but Reeve nails both equally, while their common thread is of course their shared love of Lois Lane (Margot Kidder).

Sure, he appeared in as many bad Superman movies as he did good ones, but he also crafted an unforgettable, statuesque portrayal that may never be matched (not to knock his successors too much, because they're not bad either).
