It's certainly not as narratively water-tight as the Harry Potter movies and doesn't make the most of either its cast or wondrous period setting, but Fantastic Beasts should still please Potter diehards, with its deepening of the series' mythology while introducing a host of new characters.

It feels rather low-effort as far as the series is concerned, but still passes two hours quickly enough. The CGI creations are fun though the effects quality is all over the place, the final battle is a bore, and the final Johnny Depp reveal is more hilarious than imposing. At least Colin Farrell was damn good in it...
