8. Thor: Ragnarok

Box Office: $848 million (#8)

It's hugely impressive how well Thor's third solo movie has performed, grossing over $200 million more than Thor: The Dark World and doing what most assumed it couldn't: annihilating Justice League at the box office.

On its own terms, Ragnarok is just the breath of fresh air the MCU needs, a stylistically nuts, sonically superb and gut-bustingly hilarious outing directed superbly by Taika Waititi.

Chris Hemsworth gives his best rendition of the Asgardian yet, his two-hander with The Hulk is terrific, Cate Blanchett is hammy (if underused) fun as Hela, and Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie gives the series another female hero it's been desperately in need of.

While not exactly a risky movie, it did at least try something different, and audiences enthusiastically voted with their wallets. Bravo.
