20 Horror Monsters That Were Scarier Before You Saw Them

7. Frankenstein's Creature - Frankenstein And The Monster From Hell

Monster From Hell
Hammer

During the 1950s, Hammer Studios revitalised several Universal properties, including The Mummy, Dracula, and Frankenstein.

The Curse of Frankenstein was a huge success, encouraging the studio to green-light a barrage of sequels. Rather than focusing on the same monster over and over, though, each instalment had Frankenstein devise a brand-new Creature. One of the reasons fans kept coming back to the franchise was to check out Frankenstein's latest creation.

Unfortunately, anybody who went to see Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell surely left disappointed. As usual, the Creature doesn't appear until the closing moments, but when the maniacal scientist unveils his creation, it's hard not to think, "That's it?"

The Creature - played by Darth Vader himself, David Prowse - is inexplicably covered in fur, making him look more like a gorilla than a man. The mask is so crummy, you never believe it's a real face for a second. The Creature also has a shaved scalp, so he resembles a balding ape instead of one of the most iconic monsters in sci-fi.

Even though the design of the Creatures in the Hammer saga were hit-and-miss, this one was the absolute worst.
