20 Horror Movie Characters Everyone Underestimated

17. Rod Williams - Get Out

Revenge Matilda Lutz
Universal

In Jordan Peele's outstanding Get Out, TSA officer Rod Williams initially appears to be a pretty typical comic relief sidekick to the imperilled protagonist, in this case Rod's best pal Chris (Daniel Kaluuya).

And while Rod is primarily a source of uproarious laughs throughout the movie, he well and truly comes in clutch at a pivotal moment in the film's climax.

After Rod fails to convince the police that Chris needs to be saved from the Armitage family - who plan to hijack Chris' body for their own gain - he seems to have hit a brick wall, and that's that.

And in the finale as Chris stages a violent escape, the police seemingly arrive on the scene to catch him strangling his villainous ex-girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams).

Chris is well aware of how this situation looks and so surrenders, only for Peele to reveal that the police car is actually a TSA vehicle and it's Rod who has made it to the scene to save his pal.

Given that Rod's profession and general paranoia about white folk are treated as a joke throughout the film, for him to be proven both incredibly resourceful and totally right was quite the fun turnaround.
