20 Most Critically Adored Films Of 2015

15. Seymour: An Introduction

Rotten Tomatoes: 100% From 56 Reviews No, not the JD Salinger story. Joining the illustrious few films that have a perfect score, Ethan Hawke's documentary about retired classical pianist Seymour Bernstein who gave up a rising career for a modest life as a music teacher is, simply, lovely. The film is an exercise in passion; a portrait of genius and devotion to creativity, and while there was probably massive scope for Hawke to imprint himself on it to a detrimental extreme, his restraint is very welcome. Yes, there's a little too much adoration for a subject you'd be mesmerised by anyway, but you get the very immediate sense that Hawke just wanted to say something simple and profound about a very worthy, very endearing subject. Sample Review:
"In his calm defense of beauty, craftsmanship, intellectual curiosity and emotional connection as vital human needs, this is one artist who knows he doesn't have to raise his voice to speak volumes." - Justin Chang, Variety
