20 Most Anticipated Sci-Fi Movies Arriving In 2026

6. Spider-Man: Brand New Day

The Mandalorian Season 3
Marvel Studios

UK release date: 31st July

When Tom Holland’s Spidey swung off into a snowy NYC in his home-sewn suit, having been erased from the memories of everyone who ever met him, it seemed to mark a new era for the Web-slinger on screen. And, after four long years of waiting (five when it comes out), we get to see what this strange new world has in store.

Given the ending of the previous film, which afforded an opportunity for this Spider-Man series to break away from the MCU/Avengers tie-ins that have unhelpfully tethered the movies to something larger than themselves, it would be fair to assume we’d be getting a friendly neighbourhood Spidey adventure sans team-ups, setups, and stingers. Not so: He may have his more traditional shiny red and blue suit out, but Brand New Day promises the return of, amongst others, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Jon Bernthal as Punisher, and Charlie Cox as Daredevil.

While we may not be free from Kevin Feige’s Phases and wonky ideas for endless continuity between MCU films, at least we get two of the best Marvel characters getting their time on the big screen. Punisher and Daredevil are a very compelling reason to see Brand New Day, and the NY-centrism of the characters spells good things for a more grounded, local adventure this time around.
