It was easy to have a certain amount of faith in The Happytime Murders because it was directed by Jim Henson's son Brian, who previously helmed both The Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island to solid acclaim.

Plus, the trailers featured a gag where a puppet ejaculates silly string. What more could you possibly want?

Sadly the R-rated puppet comedy blew most of its load (sorry) in the marketing, leaving precious little funny or entertaining behind for the actual movie itself.

Even if the trailers didn't take your fancy, few could've expected this to slide well below mixed reviews and straight into panned territory. Then again, it is a Melissa McCarthy studio comedy...
