20 Most Surprising Rotten Tomatoes Scores Of 2019

6. Dora & The Lost City Of Gold (84%)

The trailers for the Dora the Explorer movie didn't suggest anything more than a blandly acceptable 90-minute distraction for young children, and given that critics tend to be fairly generous with family-friendly movies anyway, that probably would've been enough for it to scrape a fresh 60% score.

But impressively, Dora ended up with a staggering 84%, higher than many of the year's most acclaimed and profitable blockbusters, with critics praising is self-aware script, Isabela Moner's performance as Dora, and its generally breezy vibe.

And honestly, the score is still pretty surprising, if only because the film is ultimately a pretty standard fare adventure movie.

Certified Fresh, even with most reviews being in the three-star vicinity, does feel rather over-generous for a film that largely just delivers the basic, watchable goods.
