20 Movie Franchises That Carried On For Way Too Long

12. Friedberg & Seltzer 'Comedies'

The Movies: Date Movie (2006), Epic Movie (2007), Meet the Spartans (2008), Disaster Movie (2008), Vampires Suck (2010), Best Night Ever (2013), The Starving Games (2013), Superfast (2014) Does this count as a franchise? I'm going to say yes, because they all share similar traits; all written and directed by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, all spoofs of whatever genre is currently popular in Hollywood that feature several recurring actors, and all painfully unfunny abominations against cinema. These movies are a blight on the word 'spoof'. The height of the genre arguably came in the 1980's with the likes of Airplane!, Top Secret and The Naked Gun, three of the funniest movies ever made. Now, it seems that to qualify you don't need any decent jokes, just lowbrow bodily humor jokes and dated pop culture references. The duo have found themselves used as a byword for the most uninspired and lazy kind of Hollywood comedy. Put it this way, their best reviewed movie (Date Movie, if anybody cares) sits at a whopping 6% on Rotten Tomatoes. I sincerely hope that the recent tragic passing of Paul Walker ends their plans to make Superfast, a parody of the Fast and Furious series. Not only would it offend millions of the late actor's fans beyond belief, it would also prevent another awful excuse for a big-screen comedy from seeing the light of day. How these guys keep getting work is beyond me.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
