20 Movies Destroyed By Their Plot Holes

Sometimes, just one question can destroy a story on its own, which is kind of a scary thought.

In Ready Player One, a soulless and overrated slice of nostalgia porn which could basically be called Member Berries: The Movie, most of humanity has become addicted to using the OASIS, a virtual reality simulation that helps the population to escape the world's problems. The deceased owner has left behind a contest that promises control of OASIS to the winner, and three keys must be discovered in order to win the prize.

Protagonist Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) is the one to find the first key here. He does so by beating an apparently unbeatable race by driving backwards at the start line instead of forwards, which allows him to win and discover the first MacGuffin, and he figures out that he should go backwards from clues left behind by OASIS' founder.

While this is a cool trick on the initial viewing, many quickly realized just how bizarre this actually is. Over five years, all of these devoted gamers who were trying to win the competition couldn't figure out this clue, and yet this one, supremely boring kid could? Surely someone else would've driven backwards before?

Because it is set off in such an illogical way, Ready Player One's story is immediately undermined, and the rest of the plot is also very weak, so the overall movie never recovers.
