20 Recent Movie Twists That Fell Completely Flat

10. The Accountant 2 - Acquired Savant Syndrome

The Accountant 2
Warner Bros.

The Accountant 2 came out many years too late, nearly an entire decade after its now mostly-forgotten predecessor, yet it subverted expectations by managing to be a perfectly acceptable action-thriller, one buoyed by Ben Affleck's unconventional, Autistic Savant hero.

Unfortunately, there's another way in which this one tried to subvert expectations, and that didn't work out at all. Throughout the movie, Christian Wolff (Affleck) is searching for a missing Salvadorean family while a mysterious assassin named Anais (Daniella Pineda) is also in the picture, being pursued by the movie's villains.

After a while, the truth about Anais is unveiled, and it's positively ridiculous. Anais is actually one of the missing family and when she sustained a head injury in a car accident, she got Acquired Savant Syndrome, meaning that she suddenly became an uber-skilled, lethal assassin and... yeah, it's just dumb.

She also looks absolutely nothing like the woman in the picture, as she's had apparently flawless facial reconstruction surgery done, somehow leaving behind no marks of any kind. Even in a film that didn't take itself super-seriously, this was all a bit too far into outright absurdity.
