20 Recent Movies That Deserve A Sequel
19. Carry-On
There was a heavy influence on Netflix's Carry-On from the Die Hard franchise - particularly Die Hard 2 in which Bruce Willis' John McClane finds himself embroiled in another criminal caper over Dulles International Airport - and while this could have made the film feel like a cheap knock-off, it was anything but.
Taron Edgerton and Jason Bateman starred in a strong outing that followed the former's Ethan Kopek foiling the villainous Traveler (Bateman), and it was fun from start to finish. The fact that it became the streaming giant's second most-watched film of all time, with 172 million views, is also telling.
The story finished in such a way that Carry-On could remain a self-contained adventure, but there is also plenty of scope for a franchise, or a sequel at least to be built around the character, again in a similar fashion to Die Hard.
Taron Egerton has played down the possibility of a sequel, but he also didn't completely rule it out altogether. There has to be a reason for doing it rather than just capitalising on so many people watching the first one, and with Ethan joining the police force at the end, there is room for another meaningful story around him and his family.
