20 Recent Movies That Deserve A Sequel
18. Zootropolis 2
Disney Animation has found itself in somewhat of a funk in recent years when it comes to original movies. The likes of Encanto and Raya and the Last Dragon may be good films, but for the last commercially successful outing that wasn't a sequel, you'd have to go back to 2016, with Moana and Zootropolis.
Both movies have received successful follow-ups within the last couple of years, both way outgrossing their predecessors, and both crossing the billion-dollar mark. The former, however, is already running the risk of overexposure as a live-action remake is already on the way, while the latter, conversely, may have a better chance of a brighter future.
Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps have made for a fun, beautiful partnership in a world that is just begging to be explored further. The first story focused on the typical predator and prey dynamic, the sequel brought reptiles into the fray, and the Zootropolis 2 post-credit scene teased something based more around birds. Seeing the film take to the skies above Zootropolis sounds like it could be a blast.
At this point, based on the critical reception and the insane $1.8 billion intake, it's surely a matter of when rather than if a third chapter is announced. It's something that Ginnifer Goodwin is anticipating herself, hoping that it won't take another decade this time.
