20 Recent Movies That Ruined INCREDIBLE Plots

Lee Cronin's The Mummy certainly gets credit for trying to do something different with the Mummy formula, given that the titular entity is this time a child, which brings with it a whole host of tantalising dramatic possibilities.

And while in theory filtering The Mummy through the nasty, R-rated prism of Cronin's previous film Evil Dead Rise isn't the worst idea, this is a film that collapses under the weight of its own rickety storytelling and overwhelmingly bloated runtime.

Good luck finding recent horror movie characters as head-smackingly stupid as the parents at the core of this story, who ignore red flag after red flag about their mummified daughter's increasingly dangerous behaviour until, of course, it's too damn late.

And even the sinewy, vicious brutality is undercut by how egregiously overlong the movie is at 132 minutes. 

Cronin could've easily trimmed this down to a tight 100 minutes and lost nothing of value while turning in a snappier, more concise rendition of his attention-grabbing central idea.
