Jan Shutan Levinson was born in 1932 and appeared as Lt. Mira Romaine in the Original Series episode The Lights Of Zetar. She grew up in Beverly Hills and won a show called Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts.

Before appearing in Star Trek, she was a regular on the show Ben Casey, having also appeared in The Outer Limits, The Fugitive, FBI, and The Andy Griffith Show. Following Star Trek, she would appear in Room 222, and Sons And Daughters.

She took on as many commercials as possible to bridge the gap between television appearances, securing up to 20 in a single year. Her film credits include Man In The Square Suit, The Seven Minutes, Dracula's Dog, and This House Possessed, in 1981, which was her final acting role.

She died on October 7, 2021, at 88 years of age.
