20 Terrible 2014 Movies That Should Never Have Happened

9. Annabelle

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 29% Unsurprisingly, the latest film from the director of Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and The Butterfly Effect 2 isn't especially great, a lame spin-off from James Wan's super-creepy mega-hit The Conjuring. This prequel movie follows Annabelle, the malevolent doll seen pictured throughout The Conjuring, but struggles to replicate the same terrifying success, even if it did go on to become one of the highest-grossing horror flicks ever. There's just nothing here that hasn't been done before, for though the idea of a haunted doll terrorising a family could be fun, everything here is a rehash of material executed better elsewhere. Had it opted for a more fun approach, to actually see Annabelle running around like a new-age Chucky, then perhaps this could have been a diverting slice of ridiculous entertainment. As it stands, Annabelle is sober, boring, cliched and poorly acted from start to finish, but all Warner are going to learn from its box office yield is, "More of this, please."
