20 Things You Somehow Missed In Alfred Hitchcock Movies
13. The Secret Ramp - Notorious
Ingrid Bergman was significantly taller than her fellow actor Claude Rains, which proved somewhat troublesome, especially for the scene where he was supposed to kiss her whilst she tried to conceal a key that she had just stolen from him. Although Hitchcock used a box for most of Rain’s scenes, it wouldn’t work for this one, so Claude walked up a ramp that was out of view. The camera direction also saw him enter the room from a distance to create the illusion of being taller.
In some frames, Rains can also be seen standing marginally higher than his co-star Cary Grant, when Grant is actually several inches taller than him.
