4. Envy - Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood does a remarkable job of painting its main villains, the Homunculi, as these supposedly perfect creations but who all struggle with their human flaws.

Each Homunculus most strongly displays the emotion for which they are named, and Envy is so beautifully written as a despiser of human kind, who ultimately just wants to be one of them.

A genderless shapeshifter of immense power, Envy revels in tormenting its targets by using those closest against them. Whether it’s igniting a genocide posing as a soldier shooting a child in the street, or transforming into a loved one to test an enemy’s resolve, Envy’s underhandedness knows no bounds.

A loyal dog to Father and one of those villains who carries a lot of weight despite not looking like much physically, it’s Envy’s actions, words and manipulation that make it so scary.

Envy is voiced by Wendy Powell and has its own coarse voice that strikes fear, while its preferred teenage form is another example of the show’s tendency toward deceptively powerful villains.
