13. Iron Man 3

#8 - $1.215 billion Iron Man kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008, but while Iron Man 2 was a commercial hit, it didn't sit that well with fans or critics. That meant Iron Man 3 had a lot riding on it, especially after the success of The Avengers. New director Shane Black delivered though, and despite a twist that upset and infuriated some comic book fans, it became the second Marvel Studios movie to reach $1 billion at the box office, and their only solo movie to achieve that impressive feat. It's just a shame that big twist has left a lot of comic book fans with nothing but bad things to say about it. Iron Man 3 was in many ways the best of the trilogy, and certainly one of Marvel's finest solo outings (even if it stuck pretty rigidly to their established formula). It also delivered more than enough fan pleasing moments to make up for that Mandarin reveal. It's amazing really that Iron Man 4 hasn't already been given a release date. However, with the Armoured Avenger set to battle with Captain America in Civil War next year, it's not like audiences are starved for Tony Stark action!
