Avatar would achieve this through a re-release, which has been rumoured as a tactic Disney may use in order to boost anticipation for Avatar 2. Disney may choose to re-crown Avatar as box office king in order to allow marketing for Avatar 2 to use the tagline "sequel to the highest grossing movie of all time" which would likely draw in more moviegoers.

A potential Avatar re-release would only need a small amount, roughly $4 million if Endgame follows box office predictions, to regain its title. Therefore, Disney currently face a difficult choice as any release of Avatar would surely guarantee it dethrones Endgame at the box office, but it would also surely help boost sales for Avatar 2.

Working against Avatar's chances is only Disney themselves and their decision as to ultimately decide which movie they want at the top of the worldwide box office charts.
