50 God-Tier Acting Moments Buried in Bad Movies

46. Wade Wilson’s Entrance - X-Men: Origins - Wolverine

It's not controversial to say that this aggressively mediocre prequel totally betrayed the character of Wade Wilson/Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds in his debut as the character. This guy is known as the Merc with a Mouth, a sassy, jokey, foul-mouthed, politically incorrect antihero, and what did this movie do? Well, Wade is apparently killed off-screen and then resurrected as a weird, remote-controlled assassin who has his mouth sewn shut... the Merc with a Mouth. The clue's in the name!

Pretty much everyone hated this creative choice, including Ryan Reynolds. Deadpool 2's hilarious end credits scene actually features Deadpool killing off this version, often nicknamed Barakapool. Having said all of this, there's one particular irony to the version seen in Origins, one which sometimes gets overlooked: when he's alive and vocal in the early scenes, Wilson is pretty great.

He's hilarious without ever coming off as smug or flippant, while also managing to be a colossal badass who effortlessly carves his way through a room of bad guys. Reynolds owns the part in his brief time on screen, and although Wade doesn't use profanity - thanks to the movie's PG-13 rating - he still feels like the Deadpool we know and love.

Ryan Reynolds has been magnificent in the Deadpool trilogy, and though the character was nerfed here, Reynolds did still hint at just how well he'd play the part later on.
