50 Infuriating Horror Movie Characters We All Secretly Wanted To Die

22. Devil - Vince McCormick

Devil Vincent
Universal Pictures

Supernatural thriller Devil, directed by John Erik Dowdle and based on a story by M. Night Shyamalan, sees a group of strangers trapped in a lift. One of them is the literal devil and is killing the others, who all have a guilty secret. It could've taken this amazing premise quite a bit further, but it's a rock-solid thriller all the same.

None of the people in the lift are necessarily up for likability awards, as they've all got significant personal shortcomings and all of them have blood on their hands. At the same time, four out of the five do at least have some redeeming qualities, and there are moments in the story where they behave in a more honourable way. The exception is Vince McCormick (Geoffrey Arend), a stuck-up and self-centred sleazeball who ran a Ponzi scheme that lost many people their assets and even led to a suicide. There are no positive qualities to this guy whatsoever.

Vince radiates unlikability from the very off, so it was considerate of the writers to make him the first character to be killed. Having to put up with this guy for too much longer would've made the movie considerably harder to get through.
