1.This Isn't The First Time Comic Book Fans Have Backlashed At The Casting In A Batman Movie And Been Wrong
When comic book fans backlash against a casting, their track record is pretty bad. In 1989, Tim Burton and Warner Brothers cast an actor then mostly known for his comedic roles in Michael Keaton. The negative reaction was so bad that Warner Brothers' share price dipped but Burton insisted, and he kept his man. The result? Keaton absolutely shone, and set the template for comic book movies thereafter. Similarly in 2006, Christopher Nolan cast a talented, but pretty actor to play the terrifying Joker in Heath Ledger. Comic book fans couldn't grasp that the guy from 'A Knight's Tale' could even conceivably be an intimidating foe for Christian Bale's Bat. The result? Ledger blew everybody away with an uncompromising and completely fresh take on the clown prince of crime, and won a post-humous Oscar for his portrayal. When Affleck was cast as the man to take on the cowl after Christian Bale's impressive portrayal, comic book fans were incensed. Affleck, who's last outing as a superhero made the actor himself declare that he didn't want to star in a comic book movie again, was cannon fodder. Since 2003 however, Affleck has rounded himself into a completely solid and capable actor and director who swings and very rarely misses. Look only as far as his work in 'Gone Girl', 'The Town', and 'Argo' to see that this guy has serious chops to take on the Bat. Blending the comic book style of the character with Nolan's real world edge, and we could be seeing the man who makes the cowl completely his own. Are you confident in Ben Affleck as Batman?
