7 Reasons Hell Or High Water Is The Best Film Of 2016 (So Far)

5. It Knows When And More Importantly How To Be Funny

All this talk of the gap between the rich and poor and the endless financial suffering of many can get a little heavy, luckily Hell or High Water knows where to inject some humour to lighten the load.

The majority of this humour comes from the two Texas Rangers, Marcus Hamilton and Alberto Parker, played by Jeff Bridges and Gil Birmingham. Sent to catch our bank robbing duo, the chemistry between these two rivals Lethal Weapon...except they're both too old for this sh*t.

Hamilton barrages Parker constantly, taking digs at his Native American heritage whilst Parker returns the shots using Texas as ammo. The interplay is hilarious and really cements the two as longtime partners and friends. Worthy of particular mention is their conversation in a restaurant about a T-bone steak that even standing alone qualifies for funniest scene of the year.

Alongside this we have the rude and realistic jibes between the brothers, as well as the often surreal merging of Texas cowboys and more modern living. Particularly fax machines.

This wry sense of humour running throughout cements Hell or High Water as not only one of the best made films of the year, but also quite possibly the funniest.
