8 Completely Ridiculous Movie Concepts Currently In Development

Given the monstrous success of the recent Fast and Furious sequels, it's not surprising to see studios jumping onto any and all car-based properties. Hollywood typically attempts to emulate the success of whatever proves to be the most popular, but here, this emulation is shaping up to be borderline cloning.

That's because - in a somewhat inevitable set of circumstances - the Hot Wheels movie is to be helmed by the director of most of those recent Fast and Furious sequels, Justin Lin.

And what does that mean?

It means that the studio doesn't really want to make a Hot Wheels movie - they're just applying a popular IP to that proven Fast and Furious template, which is ridiculous in and of itself but sadly... it'll probably make a ton of money regardless.

Development Status: This one's rather complex. First unveiled in 2003, Charlie's Angels director McG was initially attached to the project, before dropping out in 2006. Warner Bros landed the rights in 2009 before the movie finally ended up at Legendary Pictures in 2011, where it's stayed to this day.

Lin was announced as director on September 28 2016, so the movie is very much in full swing. We'll see if this one pans out!

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
