With the over-due announcement that NBC Universal will also be launching a streaming service, the focus of streaming companies (which has so far been to capitalise on binge-watching culture in the era of peak TV) may take a sharp turn to the left.

The future of the streaming landscape may indeed be a question of sport, as licensed providers of American football, soccer, and basketball exert their significant influence.

We may find ourselves in a marketplace of package deals, as umbrella corporations with fingers in both sporting and scripted pies may find they have a competitive advantage over those offering only serialised entertainment. Disney for example, own an 80% stake in ESPN, think about that!
