While Marvel fans are universally jubilant over the idea of Spider-Man joining the MCU, there is a bittersweetness to it all; we're getting another Peter Parker, instead of a fresh Spider-Man in the form of Miles Morales, the black-hispanic Spidey who rose to major popularity as part of the Ultimates comic line. There were countless theories around how Morales (who in the Ultimate run gains his powers following the death of Peter Parker) could be introduced, ranging from Captain America: Civil War pulling a big shocker and unmasking Peter ahead of a Miles stand-alone to one particular doozy that retconned Raimi's movies into the MCU and had Tobey Maguire briefly reprise the role of Spidey before passing the role onto a young Morales. However, as the repeated discussion of the character as Peter Parker revealed long before Tom Holland's casting, the plan was never to bring Morales to the screen. Well, at least not yet. At various times in interviews Kevin Feige has been asked about why Miles didn't make it to the big screen, and after several vague comments the Marvel producer offered up that he would actually be interested in introducing Miles at some point down the line, while Jon Watts has recently carefully avoided ruling an appearance from Parker's successor. So we may actually know what's going to happen once Holland finally departs the suit.
