8 Horror Movies That Were Filmed In Total Secrecy

5. Blair Witch

When a movie is as revolutionary as The Blair Witch Project, it can be hard to follow up.

Just ask anyone who's seen Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2. Yikes.

After that pile of dog turd, the possibility of a third Blair Witch movie was bounced around but ultimately failed to bear fruit. That is, until a chance meeting between the original team and two of the men behind the V/H/S series.

Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett bumped into Eduardo Sanchez and Gregg Hale at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013. They eventually entered into an agreement to work together on a third Blair Witch movie, but only if the job was done in secret.

Over the next few years, the movie was shot under the fake title The Woods, and nobody knew that it had anything to do with the 1999 found footage classic. When the film premiered at the 2016 San Diego Comic Con, the producers even put up fake posters for The Woods inside the actual screenings.

And what was the result of all this hard work? A film that was... fine. It was fine.
