8 Horror Movies That Were Filmed In Total Secrecy
3. Under The Skin
In terms of unique filming experiences, you won't find many that can match up to Jonathan Glazer's 2013 effort Under the Skin.
Starring Scarlett Johansson as an alien who captures and kills men in a Scottish town, Under the Skin is very weird to watch and even weirder to read about.
Glazer was aware of the original novel as early as the year 2000. It was originally conceived as a high-budget blockbuster with Brad Pritt of all people attached to star. Then, over time, that idea mellowed out.
It was eventually decided that the film would be extremely lowkey, so lowkey that some of the actors involved wouldn't even know they were being filmed. Johansson's interactions with various men were actually captured by hidden cameras, to make the picture feel more realistic.
They were told eventually, just in case you were wondering how many of its cast found out they were in it in the cinema.
The result of these extreme efforts is a very odd but enjoyable viewing experience. The film went on to score a bucketful of awards nominations and it's still talked about as one of the most inventive British films of the 21st century.
