4. Nick Fury
No supporting character has been more consistent than former SHIELD Director Nick Fury. He formed the Avengers (with aid from Agent Coulson) and formed bonds with Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Bruce Banner and the rest of the team during his eleven movie arc. Samuel L. Jackson has played him throughout his appearances, and he's sure to be back for more in Phases Four and Five.
Despite his importance to the franchise, though, Fury wasn't properly explored as a character until Captain Marvel (2019), where Jackson was digitally de-aged to portray Fury as a young SHIELD agent. Aside from this, the majority of Jackson's MCU appearances have been brief cameos setting up the next movie or major character reveal.
With Captain Marvel, Disney proved that a pre-Avengers Nick Fury story can work wonders. Thanks to Jackson's commitment to the role and Fury's secretive, cynical nature, a film set after the events of Captain Marvel - detailing his role in SHIELD and what he was up to before he came in touch with Tony Stark - would be a brilliant move for the franchise, helping fans properly connect to one of the MCU's most pivotal players.
