8 Problems With John Wick No-One Wants To Admit
6. Most Of The Cast Is Wasted
All things considered, this trilogy does have an Incredible cast. Aside from Keanu Reeves, there's Ian McShane, Willem Dafoe, Laurence Fishburne, Halle Berry, Anjelica Huston, John Leguizamo, Game of Thrones' Alfie Allen and Jerome Flynn, The Wire's Lance Reddick and even the late Michael Nyqvist. And... almost all of them are wasted.
None of them do anything wrong exactly, but most of them are given nothing to do and simply carry out largely undemanding parts. In particular, Willem Dafoe was criminally under-used in a nothing role in the first film and only Ian McShane has ever really made his mark, although that was undermined by his nonsensical switch to villainy at the end of the third film.
It is tragic that a franchise which does not deserve this cast at all has roped so many fine actors in only to have them doing so little. Speaking of performances, there have been some pretty underwhelming supporting parts as well, most notably from Common, Ruby Rose, Asia Kate Dillon and Mark Dacascos.
