8 Shocking Horror Movie Monsters With Surprising Powers

2. Impetigore - The Hungry Ghost

Throughout most of the film, there is no monster to blame for Impetigore’s events: instead they are the result of a curse enacted by a human.

For decades in a remote town, babies are born without skin. The curse started when a father sacrificed three little girls in order to heal his own daughter who was born skinless. His daughter, however, was born that way because of a curse put specifically on her mother - who was pregnant through an affair.

His daughter was healed and moved out of the village, but then every baby began being born skinless. Oops - you fix the result of one curse and instead accidentally curse everyone else instead!

At the film’s end, the woman (a shaman) who cast the original curse on the adulterous woman kills herself after her son does the same. The curse that has scarred the village for years is lifted, but now the shaman is dead, her spirit lives on.

Babies can be born with skin now, but not if the shaman has anything to do with it. Now a monstrous spirit, the end of the film reveals the shaman is now able to retrieve foetuses from in utero and devour them. As a ghost I’d want the ability to fly or read minds or something, but her face at the end tells us she’s pretty satisfied with her new power.
